They won't. You'll need to convert them to mp4 files.
or
You can install a hack that plays divx.

I'm pretty sure that won't work on Apple TV. I know there is a way to do DIVX on AppleTV, but I don't think its that simple plugin.

Yup. I figure on my New MacBook something was 'off' with FrontRow from the factory. I dunno. What? Am I missing something important anyway? I'm not so sure I'd want to use it regardless.

This is one of the failings of the ATV, unless you want to hack it and void the warranty
You are married to default "no additional codec" quick time.
Bitrates can be a problem.......for the audio/video philes.......
http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/mac911/ … /index.php
As for the video’s maximum bitrate, that 5Mbps isn’t a hard limit. The Apple TV will accept files that include data spikes as high as 12Mbps. Also, the maximum data rate is dependent on the final movie size. Specifically:
* Movies smaller or equal to 320 x 240 can have a maximum data rate of 768kbps.
* Movies larger than 320 x 240 on up to 848 x 480 can have a maximum data rate of 3,000kbps.
* And movies larger than 848 x 480 but smaller or equal to 1280 x 720 can have that 5,000kbps maximum.

Re: Who's got an Apple TV?
I don't see any point in getting an A TV if it is so limited in format.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.
Unless you become as little children, there's no way you will believe this crap.

Re: Who's got an Apple TV?
Those bitrates seem to be flexible though. I imported a few 720p trailers a while ago from Apple's own site and some had more than 5000KBPs bitrate and still played. And my highest quality DVD I ripped was The Wizard of Oz which is 640x480 resolution I ripped at 5000KBPs too. It plays fine. I would have ripped higher if it would make a difference.
I have a feeling those might be suggested, not strict.
If I even had an HD big enough or the money to get one, I'd rip all my DVD's at 5000KBPs.
