i selected network startup.....now ibook wont boot

I was fooling around with my ibook and i selected Network Startup to see what would happen. IT boots, shows a picture of earth. flashes it for a few times and then shows a folder with finder on it and then changes to folder with a question mark. How can I fix this? I tried startup manager but it brought me to a lock, a space to type and a arrow button. I was running 10.2.8. Anyway to fix this? I still want to use it to take on trips sad

Well, smurf happens! big_smile

Start from a CD and reset the start-up disk.

Computers never do what you want them to do; only what you tell them to do.

Re: i selected network startup.....now ibook wont boot

Try booting up using the installation OS X disk by holding down the "C" key when your iBook first starts up, then instead of running the install program you can use the menu items to select the boot drive.

If you install disk boots up into OS 9, then under the Apple menu select Control Panels and find Startup Disk, then select your iBook hard drive.

After either of the above, reboot and your iBook should boot up normally.

How long are you waiting for it to start up?

That blinking question mark should only last about 30+ seconds and then it will boot off the first available drive it can find.

Once booted go to the Startup Disk Preference Pane and change it back.

For me it usually takes a minute, then boots off the hard drive.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned holding down the option key. Do that right after rebooting and it will let you select your startup disk.

Re: i selected network startup.....now ibook wont boot

Well I don't have the start up disks they are here somewhere but i can't find them. I tried open firmware it asked for password. I type in the right password im 100% sure it was the password and it says invalid. It boots has the question mark and nothing else. I KNOW theress 10.2.8 on there. After a while it just shuts off. Could the disk be corrupt? FYI this is a ibook with serial numbers within the apple recale for bad logic boards. Could that be why?

Have you tried mostlyharmless's advice? Hold down the option key when you start up your machine. You should be able to select the start-up drive from there.

Yea. I have tried that. But it brings me to a screen with a Keylock, space to type, and a arrow which means "go" I believe. I just tried putting my other 30 gb drive in it. I am 100% sure it was the other drive not the one i took out. So now I have done all of the suggestions but nothing has worked.

I am at a real loss here. I use my ibook a lot when im not at home. I was thinking of a  Tibook or possibly a Albook? I am worried about the screen hinges sad and the LCD lines. If i get a 12' albook thats putting a g4 in my ibook and put it in a metal case.
Any thoughts? I miss being portable.

Remove one RAM chip. Rest PMU. Reboot.
Or, search for OpenFirmware Password Reset on Apple's support site for detailed instructions.

It has the stock 128 gb. Reset PMU according to this article but it is still doing the same thing sad http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html … 14449#faq6
Couldn't find the open firmware password reset. Guess this ibook is at the end of its road.
