How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
Simple Question: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it? I differentiate only because some people in here bought used so if you didn't you need not repeat yourself. However if you want you can even say any hardware upgrades you've done.
My main system in a Blueberry iMac DV 400. According to a serial number check I ran a while back, it's over 8 years 9 months old. I've had it over 4 years and 2 months. Upgrades include bumping the RAM twice 128 MB -> 256 MB -> 512 MB and replacing a failing 8 GB HD with a 160 GB one. (I can only use 128 GB though.)
What about every one else?

Main system, as in, using it to post this? eMac, 1.42 Ghz, upgraded to 768 MB ram. Combo drive. 80 GB factory HD + 250 GB Seagate USB 2 external.
But I also have a Color Classic that still works. The 700 Mhz G3 Graphite iMac, is dead

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
Well, currently my main system is my MacBook. Purchased it new just under a year ago, had it customized with 1gb of RAM. Before this, I had a P4 2.66GHz Medion PC from Aldi. Bought it in 2003, upgraded it from 60GB to 160GB+300GB, from 512MB to 1024MB, from an nVidia GeForce 4200 Ti to an ATi Radeon 9800 Pro, and from a DVD/CD-RW to dual DVD-RW drives. Oh, and I replaced the case and power supply, and replaced the ribbon IDE cables with round ones. I sold it last fall to get the MacBook.
But that one doesn't matter. It just has more history.

Main system as in it's the main one you use on a regular basis. For the sake of argument, one that belongs to you or some other member of your household (parent, sibling, significant other) takes precedence over the machine your school or job gave you to use. Though if you really want to, you can talk about that one too/instead.

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
hmmm, main system.
It could be argued my main system is a first gen 12" 867MHz Powerbook upgraded to 640 MB of RAM. I've had it since new in January 2003 (I think).
This is the machine I probably spend most time on (surfing the net, e-mail, etc).
My secondary machine is a Mac Pro 2.66 with the X1900XT Video Card, 2G Ram and a 23" ACD. I use that to process digital photos. This one doesn't fit on my lap as well, so doesn't tend to get used for web surfing!

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
Main system is a 1.67Ghz PowerBook G4.
Had it about 2.5 years or so.
Still use the previous system as well, a Dual 1Ghz MDD. Had it about 5 years.
Both were bought brand new.

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
I have been using a 1.5ghz PowerBook for about 2 years now. I'll probably squeak another 6 months to a year out of it before I migrate to something else for work. Newer creative apps run like a dog on this thing. Moreover, I'd like to pick up a MacBook so I don't need a second Windows PC.
Before this I was using a Dual 450 G4 for about 5 years. To be honest, my PowerBook doesn't feel much faster because it's a single processor machine. I's probably still be using that tower if I didn't need laptop for work.

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
main system is a 1.2 Ghz dp g4 gigabit ethernet w 1.5 gigs of ram.... (it started out as a dp 533, but i got an upgrade card a couple years ago) i bought it new in march 2001 for about $3000... i have the money to buy a new one, but.... i like this one. it works for what i need it for. eventually i'll probably replace it with a new pro tower, but until i need to, i probably won't. this thing is a tank. 6 internal hard drives, a nec 3550a dvd burner, 2 ATA pci cards, (i run it with the case open so that it doesn't overheat.) next to it, i have my 9 slot (2 burners and a couple more hds) FW tower and my pc (1.2ghz 640 mb ram, win xp... just a free pc i got to run some windows things.)
my desk is covered with misc experiments, magic cards, paycheck stubs, routers, hard drives, blank dvds and cds, pc133 256MB ram chips, batteries in various stages of disassembly, electrical parts, ipod parts, oxidizers, fuels, cell phone parts, alpha radiation sources, high voltage sources... you know, the kind of stuff you'd expect to find on my desk ;-)

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
About 3 months. I've had it for a month and a half. MacBook C2D. (Elizabeth)
Man, is this thing out of date or what?
My old main computer was a January 2005 Mac mini. (Natalie)
Though my brother uses my January 2002 iMac G4 (Stephanie) as his and I have a 333MHz tray loading Blueberry iMac G3 in the basement. (Heather) My sister is or has beaten my older iBook G3 (Jessica) into the ground pretty much though.
I'm running out of pretty girls names.

867MHz G4 12" PowerBook bought new in August of 2003 with 512MB (not including the 128 built in) and 60GB HDD have since upgraded to 1024MB RAM so I can put off buying a new computer for another 6 months and an 80GB HDD because the 60 went kaput.

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
Dual 1.8 Ghz G5. It's amazing. Possibly the most reliable machine i've ever used. Couldn't be more happy with my purchase.
Got it a few years ago, but plan on selling it and purchasing a MacBook. (gotta sell soon before the 'ol G5 prices fall too low
)
I love it, but i can't keep it forever.

17" G4 iMac 800Mhz with 768 MB of Ram, bought in new in 2002. As much as I love this computer I think I will be buying a new one within the next 6 months or so.

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
Dual 800Mhz G4, released way back in July 2001.
Top of the line when I got it, and only CD burner has gone, though DVD burner (first model to have one included) still works. Also fine for editing camcorder footage (the odd wedding), but rendering can be done a lot faster on the iMac in the next room.
Have added ram, a HD and a USB2 card but six years on and only winning some large amount of money would cause me to splash out on anything newer.
More expensive than PCs? This one ain't.

20" iMac G5/1.8, about two and a half years old and a 15" PowerBook G5/1.7, one and a half years old.
The iMac is slated to be replaced by a 24" model (or whatever large size they come up with next week) soon(ish).

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
Main system is a PII 400 was bought new in 1998, but isn't a mac. Runs XP. All original components with one added 20GB HD 5 years ago.
Secondary system (which gets almost as much use as the main one) varies from ten years old to two years old depending on the component, runs OSX 10.4.9, but as well isn't a mac.

MacBook Pro C2D 2.2 / 2 GB / 160 GB / SuperDrive
Just got this one about two weeks ago for college. I love it. It's fast :-)
Prior to the MBP, I had an iMac G5 (2.0/1 GB/250 GB) and a 12" PB G4 (1.0/768/80 GB)... both of which served me very well.

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
I used to use a 5 year old PowerBook G4 667mhz, upgraded with 768MB of RAM, a new left hinge (fixed ghettofabulously, it's amazing how I fixed it XD), and an 80GB hard drive. Two months ago I upgraded to a brand new SR MBP 2.4 15". I also have my gaming PC, although this MBP in Boot Camp fills that role quite nicely too
