What Sort of Audio System Do You Use With Your Mac?

Well, I thought it might be sort of interesting to see what everyone on here was using as far as audio goes.  The EXO speaker system on the MacLife homepage sparked the idea for me.  So..here it is.  What are you using for speakers, what did you pay, how do you like them?  Post pics if you want.

My setup is as follows:
Onkyo A7040 (from 1979) integrated amp
Infinity RS3 bookshelf speakers

The amp is rated as a VERY conservative 65wpc.  It has more power than is ever necessary for a computer system, or more power than I will ever need in my dorm room for that matter....That was my goal when I bought everything off of ebay:  to create a good dorm system  that I could use my iTunes library with, rather than CDs and radio.  The amp is hooked up with a Monster cable that converts the headphone jack output on the computer to RCAs.

Same as my stereo, basically.

I think my speakers might be a little smaller. Sony SS-MB100H speakers.

I'd hardly call it a "sound studio."

edit: missed thhe "wannabe" part. I guess that's accurate.

Yeah, my speakers come in at about 15lbs each.  I bought the whole system off of ebay.  Thirty bucks for the amp, sixty for the speakers, and then about thirty in cables and wires.  The speakers were about $300-$400 new in the late 90's, and the amp was a couple of hundred in '79.

Whatever earphones I haven't broken. Right now it's a pair with an excess of cabling and integrated microphone...

I can't quite make it out - is that an Onkyo amp? I swear my parents had one that looked just like it when I was a kid.

Re: What Sort of Audio System Do You Use With Your Mac?

Some kind of Logitech 2.1 speaker system.  It sounds rather lousy compared to a real stereo, so I listen on some decent AudioTechnica headphones unless I'm expecting a phone call or something.

Re: What Sort of Audio System Do You Use With Your Mac?

I have Apple Pro Speakers for my Digital Audio G4, but Apple, in their infinite wisdom, made the cable 3 smurfing feet long.  There is nowhere I could move my tower that would allow the speakers to be placed in any sort of reasonable location.

3 smurfing feet for speaker cables?  Are you out of your mind, Apple?

Griffin apparently made a product called an APS Extension Cable at one point, but it's long since been discontinued.  The only place I was able to find it on the internet, including eBay, was at Alta Technology, where I wound up spending £20 ($40) for this cable which should have cost me $6.

And I ordered it there on July 31.  The order is still "processing" despite my credit card having been charged already.  Apparently there is some sort of summer holiday going on in the UK and it's making them take forever to ship stuff.

Re: What Sort of Audio System Do You Use With Your Mac?

Altec Lansing ATP3 wired to the mac in the basement, and Airtunes moving the music to the home theater (ONKYO unit with Bose surround) in the family room.

We just moved into a new house that has 4 additional speakers in the walls in the living room and master bedroom. I'm either going to buy another Airtunes hub to hook those up, or see about wiring those speakers to the Onkyo. Only problem is we are dealing with 3 different levels in the house.

Yeah.  Onkyo A7040.  Just under $30 including shipping on ebay....it's heavy, made of thick metal and sounds nice and warm (and also as if the 65wpc that it is rated at is a lie....it seems much higher).
