Painting a MacBook: help!
Say you have the white MacBook, and you wanted to put a design on it, perferably using the MacBook's original finish, a shiny black paint, and some sort of reflective silver paint. It only is on the screen panel, doesn't go close to the edges, or on the logo.
What would be the best solution for low price, lovely appearance, and lasting a very long time (about the span of the MacBook, which is either new or an upcoming model)?

I recall a pretty cool mod for an old iBook. Basically you must remove the case, get rid of the white paint, and repaint. Just be warned, something like this will void your warranty. Also, you can't paint the upper base (ie. around the keyboard) -- on the iBook anyway.

Re: Painting a MacBook: help!
I just want to do a design like those laser etchings on those PBs and MBPs, only tri-toned
Should I cover the areas I don't want painted, use a mild acid to roughen up the surface, then spray on a layer of paint, remove the cover, then repeat for the other colour? what kind of paint should I use?

Re: Painting a MacBook: help!
You'd have to use Google for those answers. Also, make sure you find out if the casing is actually painted or if it is some sort of acrylic. If it's not painted this won't work.
If you're at all worried it will look like crap in the end... I wouldn't even try. However, where would the human race be if nobody took any chances or took the time to express themselves.
Edit:
Here is one of the more detailed guides:

Re: Painting a MacBook: help!
It's just a standard MacBook, not the black version, the white version; and just the centre of the top panel, surrounding the logo.

Re: Painting a MacBook: help!
Would a Automotive detailing place be able to do it?
I believe that the MacBook's case is similar enough to auto paint for this to be feasible.
anyone?

Re: Painting a MacBook: help!
If its just like the iBooK you would remove the plastic around the screen and remove the white using alchoal. However if macbooks are like a metalish surface there is a company out here that does laser engraving i dont know if thats something you would be interested in

and would that make the paint stick? preferably with leaving parts of the orig paint as par of the design?

I would, but the MacBook is essentially an Intel iBook.

You could mask off the parts that you want to appear and remove the paint that you dont want. Again this is accomplished by removing the plastic lid from the display.

This will not work. Only the first few revisions of white iBook G3 used clear plastic with white paint. Since then, it's been solid white polycarbonate.
