So I take it Rik's gone?

since he has't been on the podcast that he created in weeks, and his profile description here is "Unemployed guy"? Why is it that when media outlets change staff, they have to pull that Big Brother thing of "Rik? There is no Rik. There never WAS any Rik. Why would you ask about someone named Rik?" Just a little bummed. I thought back in the MacAddice days that they should have a podcast, and when one turned up, originally ubder the name Maclife, I was psyched that Rik was doing it. Podcasts are what killed MacAddict's readership. I stopped reading years ago because I could get the same info on the web 3 months before it came out in the mag. Podcasting is where they should have been years ago, and Rik did it well. It's not so good now, and I won't be listening any more. Good luck in whatever comes next for you, Rik. You will be missed.

Despite all my age, I am still just a brat in a rage.

The podcast is so far gone that I stopped subscribing.   Episodes 17 and 18 are the same episodes for crying out loud.  Wherever you go Rik, take me with you.

Rik's gone? Wow, didn't know that at all. Too bad. I'll miss him as much as I miss all the other former MA editors

Re: So I take it Rik's gone?

Yeah, I'm no longer a day-to-day guy over at Mac|Life -- but I will continue as a contributing editor, occasional author (check out my moderately geeky storage article in the next issue), as well as the monthly Deep Tech guy.

As you've noticed, Mac|Life is a different magazine than MacAddict was.  Let's be honest -- it's better in tune with today's styles, trends, zeitgeist, or however you want to express that intangible sense of "todayness," and as a dowdy, 57-year-old, afashionable, classical-music-loving shlub, that's not my cup-o-latte; I'm more a cup-o-joe kinda guy.  I greatly prefer a good discussion of the giant magnetoresistive effect over musings about whether Woz and Kathy Whatshername are doin' the nasty. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

So I'm out in the Real World™, noodling at some tech-writing jobs, doing some marketing writing (whodathunkit?), and diving into tech more deeply than I had time to do when a full-timer.  Expect to see some of the fruits of that diving in Mac|Life in the near future.

I'll miss Rik too - and Niko. They gave MacAddict an edginess (is that a word?) that MacLife doesn't have. The new iteration lacks personality and is flaccid in style and a Philistine in approach.

MacAddict was Chicken Kiev with peas and mashed potatoes, MacLife is Hamburger Helper.

Good luck Rik! I'll be on the look out for your continuing contributions.

So Niko's gone too? I guess the lamentations about how things 'used to be' can end, because all vestiges of MacAddict have been erased.

Re: So I take it Rik's gone?

There was one of those goof-ball MacAddict QT movies several years ago. The only thing I can remember about it is Rik pouring scotch into a shot glass and drinking it - he did that over and over several times very fast.
Not sure why, but I just about peed myself laughing. Must have been the intensity he portrayed.
Guess we won't be seeing anything like that in MacLife.

I remember that too. I wish I remembered:

1. What that was called
2. Which disk it was on
3. Most importantly, where the frick my discs are.

If anyone can remember which disk that particular video was on, let me know so & i'll dig it out, as i still have all my disks.  (this is assuming i have the disk it is on)

[PS -- yes, i did come out of my long hiatus from these forums just to say that tongue ]

Re: So I take it Rik's gone?

Wow! What a change -- yeah, I only drop by once every couple earth years or so. Last time here MA online was all purple and green, then it disappeared altogether. My old username and PW were defunct. And now Rik of late is gone too. Guess I'll take a couple more swings around mars for awhile . . . .

Ooooo..... .. ....
