21 yr user needs help!
In 21 years I've never had a problem that Disk Utility couldn't fix...until now. I get the following message even when I start up from the install disk. Although it mustn't be a serious problem if my son can play WOW for 8 hours a day, are there any suggestions out there to fix the disk (aside from getting a new 24" iMAC)?

Re: 21 yr user needs help!
More specifically, boot off the OS X DVD, run disk utility, and hit repair.
You can't repair unless you boot off the OS X DVD.
To boot off the DVD, put the DVD in your drive, and restart while holding "C"
Once the installer loads, don't reinstall OS X, look for Disk Utility in the menu bar.

You can also run the repair from a single-user boot if you don't have an OS X boot disc handy.

And if that don't work, I'd try DiskWarrior.

Re: 21 yr user needs help!
Thanks everyone but I did boot off the OSX DVD and accessed disk utility from the menu. I did a disk verify and a disk repair and received the error message...or SOL message...in both the verify and repair modes. I guess Disk Warrior is in my future.

Re: 21 yr user needs help!
Sometiimes fsck command from the single user mode command line will work when Disk Utility won't.
