I, too, found that amusing.  She's got it backwards.

The Catholic Church is Christianity.  The various forms of protestantism are just spinoffs created by people who desired to change the tenets of their belief system out of convenience.

Now, there are enough Christian churches that, if you look long enough, you can find one that lets you worship exactly the way you want to.

Well, that's why the term is usually "Cafeteria Catholic."
The Catholic Church has rules and has an organization (the Magisterium) that makes those rules. "Cafeteria Catholics" pick and choose convenient rules from the set of given rules.
If you're Protestant and you don't like the rules, you just split and form the Third Reformed Presbyterian Church of Eastern Iowa with the rules you like.

Ha! Yeah, or for living life itself. I don't know about you, but I would've been mortified to ask anyone the questions I had when I was tweenaged. I probably would've been as bad, though; the false anonymity seems to really get things out there that shouldn't always have an answer for and should be answered over time (or in teacher/sex ed form of "everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask").

If only our schools had some sort of proper sex education program...

Totally. We'd be safer, cleaner as a society if we'd drop the abstinence bullsmurf and actually brace ourselves for real world conditions.
