"Sony euthanizes Sony Connect"
ars technica has the story.

They suggest if you want to continue to listen to their music that you record the tracks to CD and then re-rip them to MP3s.
RIP Sony Connect.

Re: "Sony euthanizes Sony Connect"
I think a few of us called this about 4 months ago. I'm not saying it's old news, but we knew it was the next step when they started downplaying it, and the final nail in the coffin with the wonderful death of ATRAC.
Spirit was crushed; now is fading, But I want to help make things right.
Because I can see and I can feel, and you can see and you can feel
So why don't we both either stand up and fight
Or at least together we'll call it a night.

Re: "Sony euthanizes Sony Connect"
I thought Sony released some software to convert those pesky ATRAC files to MP3.

Yes, I don't think anyone is too surprised at this turn of events. The question is, who's next?

I wish they would just stick with their products long enough so I know who's doing what. iTunes didn't exactly take off (or did it? I don't remember), and we still know it by that name.

AFAIK iTunes was purchased by Microsoft and Dell, who killed it off and replaced it with their own music player called iTunes.
It is much better now.

Sony.....software.... ::wipes tears from eyes::
On another note. When did ATRAC die? And why did I not hear of it. Either way, good riddance.
Alright, now, who wants to be transistorized?

"Sony will also be providing free MP3 converter software to customers to convert any original CDs they may have ripped into ATRAC."

Actually, that says, 'convert any original CDs'. Oh dear. What about all those ATRAC files I downloaded from Limewire? Bugger it.

I like Sony, but man, they really suck sometimes. But not now. Getting rid of ATRAC is one hell of a step in the right direction.
