More or Less. Save for the iPod Classic all the iPods & iPhone use Flash Storage which only typically comes in the binary multiples like Daniel listed. Other figures like 5, 10, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 160, 200, 250, 320, etc are only really practical on a magnetic drive.
I'm not so sure this is really a technical limitation, though, as far as solid-state storage is concerned; if it really were limited to power-of-2 storage sizes, then 16GB would really mean 16GB rather than 16,000,000,000 bytes, which is what Apple uses.
Apple state that (standard) disclaimer to make up for storage space lost to formatting.
Solid state memories adhere to powers-of-two size limits because of the way they are manufactured. Unlike magnetic storage, they are true binary devices.

so. apple needs to tell us what the battery life with wifi on is.
also.
what sort of wireless security does the iPhone and iPod touch support. if i can use it on my college campus, i'd get a touch.

This is seriously the coolest thing apple has done in a long time. I'm totally getting one.

The new fat nano is nice, but I can't really justify the price. I have a 4GB nano already and while video would be nice, I probably wouldn't use it much.
The new touch looks cool. Hopefully they'll add more functions via software updates. I find it a little too big for my taste. It's a quandary though, it has less storage capacity for video than the classic, but a much nicer, larger screen for viewing.
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

Decisions, decisions. Does anyone know how the calendar works? Can you add entries with the iPod now? Are there to do's or notes? I would love to use this thing as a PDA.

Re: iPod Touch
I am disappointed that it seems there is no "radio" feature on the 'touch'?!
Also, I noticed that "radio" is not visible on the promos for the latest iTunes? Is is just a hidden feature or has it been disabled? I am still using 7.1, which has radio.
My point simply being that a WiFi iPod makes for a killer internet radio device.

Re: iPod Touch
I would get it for the video and WiFi. I would be developing web apps for it. I have been waiting for this. And eventually people will hack it like the iPhone to allow custom real apps. Well, it'll happen.
I will get one eventually. But dammit, 16GB is small. SMALL. I have 400GB of videos. I would have sacrificed the battery for a real HD. But I guess 5 hours on Flash for video is a bit.... short already. So I'll live. No biggie.
I'll get one as soon as I get a new job or later. Possibly October or so. Maybe November.
I was expecting exactly this... except the HD space. But still.

Radio in iTunes is off by default, but you can turn it on in Preferences.
I'm not too bummed about no radio. I haven't listened to radio in years. I find my taste in music surpasses what the record labels think is good music. Besides, with 43GB of music, I'm pretty sure I can find plenty of good stuff I haven't discovered yet on my own...

"An accelerometer detects when you rotate iPod touch from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display, so you immediately see the entire width of a web page, your music in Cover Flow, or a photo in its proper aspect ratio. "
Wow. Rookie mistake on my part. That was the quote I was answering. Sorry Aqua OS X!

They could've hidden it behind a plastic apple logo.

Ok Safari, youtube, calculator, calendar, etc. Finally we have a device for every Uni student who carries a lappy around!
I want one!
Edit: More than anything it's a cheap testbed for multitouch applications...

There are plenty of 6GB flash drives used in other MP3 player brands.
In the computing world, sticking with powers of two is sometimes useful, but in the case of flash storage, there's no practical advantage in doing it that way.

Re: iPod Touch
As for the iPod Touch, I think it's a good idea that could be made better by the addition of a hard drive and a small flash-based swap disk.
3rd party app support would've been a nice extra.

There will be 3rd party apps, they'll just be incredibly controlled (well the official ones anyway...it will be hacked by the end of the week).

Well on the iPhone it makes a noise and pops up a reminder if you tell it to do that for the event (in ical or the calendar app on the iphone).

At this point, think about whether you want a streusel-topped pie (my favorite) or a lattice topped pie. (Or a solid top-crust pie which I don't show here, but should be easy to figure out on your own.) You do not double a one-crust recipe to make a pie with a top crust, or you'll have too much crust. But you can double a one-crust recipe for two pie shells.
but seriously, what the hell did that random quote have to do with -anything- I typed in that initial post.

I just watched the "iPod Touch Tour Video" and they showed websites viewed in both landscape and nonlandscape mode.
That's good to know. I only had time this morning to view the video on the features page, and it didn't show this capability with Safari:
