Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Most of my field servers are G5 Xserve's...

Should I try the tweak that runs an instance for each CPU?

Also, do I need to change the machine ID for each system that is deployed?

Code:

[settings]
username=Otsep
team=18
asknet=no
machineid=1

confused

You could run one client per core on the G5's, but you need not do that on the Intels as the client will use all cores.

You don't need to change the machine ID.

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Intels need run only 1 copy of Folding ?    So, we don't do a dual install anymore ?

---------

And I take it the otsep is not the same as new member "ppienkow" with a big Work Unit of 1760 points ?

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Well, the Intel folding client seems to handle four cores without any issues. Here is a thread discussing installing folding on an 8-core machine:
http://forum.folding-community.org/ftopic19031.html

One user says they are running two clients (in separate directories like we do with the PPC client) without any trouble.

There's definitely some activity under otsep's name but no points awarded officially.

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

166 Confirmed installs. big_smile

That mean I had 94 machines that didn't install. It looks like mostly account issues,  I'll have to see what's up. confused

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

so far Stanford is only showing 8 active processors for you Otsep.

Otsep

Have you installed on all your computers?

166 reported that the install script finished. I'll have to write a script to run the stats on all the machines. I haven't addressed that last 94 yet. Should be more showning up than the 9 I have right now. I'll have to look into the systems and see why they are not posting properly. hmm

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

I think I see a bug in the script I wrote. blush I'm going to re-install on a couple of test servers. How long does it normally take for your processor count to update?

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Don't know.   It's unreliable in that I don't keep a close eye on the processor count.

You might have to check, on many (all ?) of your computers, the CPU usage in Activity Monitor or the file unitinfo.txt to make sure your WU progress is not zero.

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Re-deploying now. smile

I'm having it kick off F@H as soon as it's done. Hopefully, that will address my very low processor count and get the rankings kickin'.big_smile

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Not sure how uninstalling works over Remote Desktop.    Basically, you could
1. delete the Folding folder
2. delete the cron command with "crontab" in Terminal.   I use an empty file to be the std input.
3. just in case, delete the Folding plist file  (whatever it's called --- do the PPC's even have one ? )

--- summing up the general theory, in case you need it.

So far, 9 WU completed for you.

-----------------

I suppose there are vital pieces of software running during the times where you turn Folding off.     In my limited experience, I've never seen such a thing personally where Folding affects the user experience.    Team champion Belloq says his users have reported slowdowns, but this may be on non-Mac hardware.

Basically I used Kiwi CatTools to remove everything I did before. My problem seemed to be caused by some third-party utilities. They didn't like our proxy network and mucked everything up pretty good. Hopefully, it'll be ok now.

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Okay, my big mistake on processor count.  Forget what I said before.

--------  Otsep has 20 processors counted according to Stanford.  A processor gets counted when a WU is completed.

I suspect these 20 are PowerPC Xserves with small proteins.

The Intel processors may have some really big proteins.

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

Otsep appears in top 20 of Team daily production with 388 points per day for the last week, 27 CPUs seen.

We need to check your Intel Xserves.   I just completed my first Intel WU of 1760 points in 2.5 days, not running 24 hours a day.

Re: Distributed(Xgrid) F@H

One or 2 of Otsep's succesful machines must be an Intel.  There was a pretty good size point count the other day.

I haven't setup any of my Intel Xserves yet. Sorry, but I should have some done soon.

Interesting.   I didn't think the PPC's would be THAT efficient.  You had 2 proteins, total of 1564 points at 12 a.m. 18 hours ago.   So, 2 of the Xserves probably ran around the clock, both with big proteins.

I do have F@H on my Intel iMac, maybe it's helping the numbers. I have the Xserves running from 1700 to 0700 every day.
