Re: Domino's Oreo Pizza
Never had sbarro's. Domino's is smurf - but it's better than frozen pizza. This isn't enough to warrant it's higher cost however.
I miss the Papa Johns I had access to in college - the best Domino's pizza I've ever had was just slightly worse than the average Papa John's pizza.
Still - they're both crap compared to an independent pizzeria pizza or Papa Murphy's. For the price Papa Murphy's is almost always the best value.

Wow, Domino's must be different in the States compared to Canada. There are better pizzas here, but Domino's isn't terrible. It's certainly overpriced for what you get, though.

Re: Domino's Oreo Pizza
My folks got me a bunch of cookbooks for my birthday-- including the Silver Spoon. For some reason, Oreos Pizza is not among the dozen or so recipes. Then again, very few of them bear any resemblance to American Pizza anyway.
"Fisherman's Pizza" looks oh so scrumptious, though I'm not sure where I might get baby octopi.

An Asian grocery store, probably.

Oreo pizza? Blech. *shudder*

Re: Domino's Oreo Pizza
Can't stand chain Pizza.
Pizza Hut is probably the worst, extremely salty. I find mort of them go heavy on the salt and apparently use government cheese. Never fails to give heartburn and/or indigestion.
Here in the NYC area we just opt for the independant.
Unfortunately the quality of the pizza is in serious decline over the last 20 years.
A sad state of affairs indeed.
It used to be that just about every Pizzaria in NYC and surrounding counties sold a decicious, tangy, flavorful pie with a supple crust with a hint of crunch and a great chewy-ness.
Those days are gone. Nowadays it isn't uncommon for the average pizza to be a dull affair (still better than a Chain).
I'd rather eat a frozen Ellio's or Tree Tavern than a Dominos or Sbarro's (funny thing is the Sbarro family has NY roots-they should be ashamed of themselves).
Otherwise we opt to make our own -either from scratch or with pre-made dough or shell-or french bread)
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me.

Re: Domino's Oreo Pizza
thought id chime in guys. if youre in nyc and want to know what pizza from southern italy tastes like (the pizza capital of the world, imo. im there for a month every summer), then check out either una bella pizza napoletana or luzzos, both within a few blocks of each other i think. in the village on 1st ave. not sure about which street. both are owned by naples immigrants. beware though, una bella pizza has very limited choices and there is usually always a line to get in! its well worth it though. everything is made right there and cooked in a brick oven. lol the guy stays open until he sells out of dough. talk about the italian way. my dad is from naples, so we go here often. he cant eat pizza anywhere else while we are in the us, save for a few places in brooklyn. haha try it out and then get back to me on dominos
oh, btw, forgot to mention in reference to an eariler post. in italy, they put chopped hotdogs and french fries on white pizza. its delicious!

Una Pizza is the same spot this guy is talking about. Think about this: two people who probably live in two different areas who dont know each other both agree that this is one of the best spots for pizza ever.

We call it back bacon. You can't get real bacon on a Dominos pizza though, you have to go to a real pizza place for that. Dominos just uses that processed bacon crumble.

Re: Domino's Oreo Pizza
Una Pizza Napoletana? I'll have to check it out. That'd be the East Village.
Reviews here and on a Pizza lovers website are favorable.
I just did a search on it, apparently the pizzaria was established over in Jersey and recently moved over to NYC.
Looks like a slightly different pie than the classic NYC pie (though the original NYC pie was more like what is today known as a "Margharita".
Good examples of what evolved into the classic NYC pie is actually easier to find in Northern Jersey or LI than in NYC I am afraid.
The Margarita style has made a comeback and good examples of that type of pie can be found at John's in Greenwich Village, Patsy's (several locations) and at Manetta's just across the East River in Long Island City.

Hey! We were in Winston-Salem a few weekends back & went there for dinner one night. GREAT pizza and the place was freakin' packed too. I don't go in for vegetarian anything usually, but that was some gooooood pizza.
We make our own at home too, on a stone and it's better than 99% of the crap that's locally available. Somebody was asking about dough, check your local grocery store, in the bakery dept. Many of them sell it in balls, you may have to ask for it. And don't try to stock up & freeze it, won't work.

There are four different pies they offer, one of which is a Margherita (San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh basil, and sea salt). The others are Marinara (San Marzano tomatoes, extra-virgin olive oil, oregano, garlic, basil and sea salt), Bianca (buffalo mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil, and sea salt), and Filetti (cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozerella, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh basil, garlic, and sea salt).

Ah, good to have names for these! I had one of these on a trip to Italy near the ruins of Pompeii, and it remains to this day as the best pizza I've ever had. I don't remember the combination of spices, so I can't say exactly which one I had.
Now all I have to do is find a place in town that makes these.

amen to that brother (sister?)! sorry i missed your first posting on it, mustve been skimming. yeah it truly is delicious. my favorite is the white. i can down a couple pies (theyre individual)
yeah i forgot he was in jersey, i believe point pleasant? i dont remember for sure. didnt do so well here, but only because most of the people in new jersey dont understand
my dad got to know the guy cooking the pizza. hes a young guy, i think his name is anthony. he really has a great business there. my dads also in the restaurant business. we own ponte vecchio in bay ridge, brooklyn. keeping on the topic of pizza, has anyone heard of patsy's pizzeria in brooklyn? pretty famous. the original owner comes to eat at our restaurant all the time. place used to be good, but since he sold it, it has really gone down hill quality-wise (still packed as ever, go figure)

Re: Domino's Oreo Pizza
I like Domino's for a good, fast, and cheap ($5 Tuesdays around here) meal. Thin crust with green peppers is one of those rare crappy foods I just crave from time to time. Now, locally we have the Mellow Mushroom which uses this special dough that is to die for. And their sandwiches, just wow. That and Pizza Perfect make the south a decent place to get a good real pizza.

I am truly blessed in the Pizza department. Here I am in a small town in Oklahoma and what should take over a closed restaurant directly across the street from the exit of my subdivision but an Italian restaurant owned and operated by an Italian family who moved here from the Bronx!
Their pizza is wonderful and it's REAL serious big city Italian neighborhood style. It's as good as any pizza I ever had in Chicago.

I like a chain called Cici's the best. All you can eat pizza (of zillions of varieties) for only like $6. Out of the major chains, I prefer Papa John's to Dominoes. I won't touch Pizza Hut at all.
Back home, there's a local place called Emilio's that has the BEST pizza around. Sooooo good. The pizza here on campus is hand-made as well and is pretty good.

Re: Domino's Oreo Pizza
I have not ordered Dominos in a while, I usually stick with Double Pizza (I think it's a montreal only chain), but I really don't notice much of a difference in taste between the two, the only reason that I order Double instead of Dominoes is the price.
