Dos boot disk as a CD?

Hey folks

I have a PC with a messed up floppy drive and I don't want to sink more cash into it and buy a new floppy drive. Even though they're cheap.

I wanted to flash the bios so I need a boot disk.

Is it possible to burn a CD to use as a startup file that will start in DOS? And I guess I'd need to have the bios flash files on there and not the hard drive? the hard drive is formated as ntfs. How would I go about making a bootable CD? I'm running Windows XP home edition...

Re: Dos boot disk as a CD?

First, you might check your PC's maker's website and see if there isn't an updated version fo the BIOS updater which does not require a DOS boot disk. This is especially true for recent models of Dell Computers.

You might try FreeDOS. I do not know how easy it is to create a bootable CD with the files you want added to it, but I know that it is possible.

Alternatively, you might see if you can create a bootable flash drive by using one of the methods available on this page, assuming, of course, that you have a sufficiently large flash drive that is bootable and that your PC allows booting up via a USB port.
