Make Your Mac Look Like Windows
Posted 01/01/2006 at 5:47:09pm | by Dan Pourhadi

Step 2: Curse the Cursor

Windows uses a white mouse cursor-presumably just to be contrarian, since the Mac uses a black one. To give OS X's cursor that new Windows smell, install the ShapeShifter plug-in Mighty Mouse ($10, www.unsanity.com), download the Windows-ish cursor set (free from www.resexcellence.com/cursors), and double-click the Windows-ish.MightyMouse file. Click the Apply tab in System Preferences > ShapeShifter, change the Cursor Sets option to Windows-ish, and click Apply Changes.

White is the new black, and black is the new lime green. Do you really want a lime green cursor? Didn't think so.

Omg this is so hilarious, thankyou for this. I wouldn't imagine why a mac user would try to make their Mac look like a PC.

avatarSick of Snobby Mac Users

Yeah, I was hoping this article would actually be useful. I'm so sick of you snobby Mac users who think Macs are god's gift to the nerd world! There are soooo many annoying, impractical and completely UNintuitive things about Macs! Nevertheless I'm forced to use one at work, even though I hate them and find them counterproductive. Not that Micro$oft products are perfect - there are many many things to dislike about Bill Gates and M$. However, I have noticed a generally distasteful snobiness about Mac users that is inappropriate and unwarranted. Get a clue! Macs are lame!

avatarwhy make mac look like windows?

i can understand why somebody might want to make windows xp look like mac or vista - because its ugly! but why deface aqua with the ugly preschool blue and green that is XP?... if you really need to see xp, use parallels! and as for the previous "mac sucks" comment - im a user of both mac and PC, i have a powerful windows desktop running vista that i use most of the time, and a nice little super-light black macbook i use for school. Its reliable and fast, and i dont have to worry about it waking up in my bag... or crashing while doing some really simple task!

my mac owns in both speed and reliability over my windows machine, vista often does strange things, and hangs for an unknown reason! my mac with leopard has only twice crashed in the year i have had it (i upgraded to leopard recently when it came out).

im not a "mac fanboy", i was brought up on PCs, and still use them at home and for some school stuff. Everything i learnt about computers came from the PCs i have owned, however i also now know a mac is more reliable.

avatarThere are always computers

There are always computers available in the Mac lab at school. The problem I just had a minute ago is that once I put in my flash drive and started working on a document, I clicked off to the side (somewhere on the desktop maybe?) and the whole computer switched so that it looked like it was running Windows. I couldn't find an option anywhere to switch back to Mac. My document vanished and the faux-windows wouldn't recognize my flash drive.... I had to just remove the flash drive without "removing safely" and now my document looks like JUNK. What the heck? Why was the computer having an identity crisis? How do you switch your Mac computer back to looking like a Mac so that documents you are working on don't get destroyed???

avatarMac can learn from Windows

I'm not sure when it happened, but Windows has surpassed Mac in a variety of ways. After years of claiming they were the fastest machines, apple switches to Intel...and they don't even offer ultra high end versions. Then they claimed to be the cheapest machines, but Dell is about half the price for identical components. Plus the OS has some major problems including networking, crashing for no reason, memory errors, and usability questions. Why can't I rename a folder when I'm in the save as dialog box. At least they finally admitted two mouse buttons are better then one.

avatarOut of your awesome

Out of your awesome "Macness", you failed to realise your bottom logo on this page doesn't look that professional. Rather like someone cut it off a white background in paint with 20% JPEG quality. Mac monitors are that good?
