Apple disables unlocked iPhones: The iPhone 1.1.1 update that was released yesterday disables unlocked iPhones. Hackers are back at the drawing board, trying to figure out how to unlock the iPhone again, and when they do, Apple will probably cripple unlocked iPhones again—it's going to be a long iPhone war.

The update also wipes out any third-party native apps on the iPhone installed by "jailbreaking." A preliminary look shows that Apple changed the encryption methodology for the iPhone, which means it could be some time before you can jailbreak an iPhone again.

Also, the iPod touch was updated to version 1.1.1.

Apple's new lawyer: After 10 months on the job, Apple general counsel Donald Rosenberg will leave Apple to become general counsel at Qualcomm. He replaced Nancy Heinen, who is being investigated by the feds in a stock options scandal. Daniel Cooperman will be the new general counsel for Apple.

AOL Desktop for Mac: In the No One Really Cares Department, AOL Desktop for Mac was unveiled. If you still use AOL, please tell us why in the comments section below. You can post anonymously. Really. We'd like to know.

WiMAX makes its move: WiMAX proponents are riding high at the WiMAX world show in Chicago. With the setbacks to municipal Wi-Fi, there's an opportunity for WiMAX. With Intel planning to incoroporate WiMAX in laptops later next year, you'll see faster growth in WiMAX development.

Woz, Griffin not engaged: And finally, some fodder for the weekend. It turns out that the rumors of Apple co-founder, philanthropist, prankster, dog lover, and Segway jockey Steve Wozniak is not engaged to the surgically enhanced, Emmy Award winning, Celebrity Mole champ Kathy Griffin.
