The Air Mount is a clear acrylic mounting bracket for the AirPort Extreme. You can use it to mount your router to a wall or ceiling, which can be a better position for signal clearance than on top of a desk, bookshelf, or on the floor.

The Air Mount slides underneath the AirPort Extreme, leaving the top exposed, which is important because that’s where the Wi-Fi antenna is located. H-Squared provides the screws you can use to attach the Air Mount to the wall or ceiling.

Before you go making holes in your walls, it’s important to do some planning with the Air Mount. That’s because you have to figure out how to manage the cables and power for the AirPort Extreme. First, there’s the cable running from the router to your broadband modem. Second, there’s the power cable. And lastly, there are any Ethernet cables or any USB devices connected to the AirPort Extreme.

In any event, you’ll have a cascade of cables falling from the router, and in our opinion, cables just don’t look good. Maybe you can figure out a way to disguise the cables. Or maybe you’re handy enough to punch a hole in the wall and thread your cables through. Or maybe you know how to relocate your power outlet so it’s next to the Air Mount.

Or maybe you’ll just leave your AirPort Extreme sitting on your desk.

The bottom line. If you need to improve your AirPort Extreme’s Wi-Fi coverage, the Air Mount can help. So long as you don’t mind the unslightlyness of a router and its cables hanging from your wall or ceiling.
