According to GigaOM sources, Broadcom, who acquired Global Locate last year, will be supplying Apple with the hardware necessary for GPS goodness.
The next iPhone is expected to have GPS built in. According to Popular Mechanics, GPS device makers are "Scared [expletive]-less," of a GPS-enabled iPhone. The iPhone, with its external speakers, large screen and Google Maps application would replace in-car navigation devices for many people.
Of course, it would also be the ultimate geocaching device. You could Twitter your expedition with pics, listen to your favorite tune and call your wife to tell her your gonna be home late because you're looking for a stash.
