TUAW received an interesting tidbit today, one that will hopefully come true in the future. The anonymous tipster laid out details for iTunes Unlimited. Yes, that’s right, unlimited iTunes.
The tipster suggested that for $129.99 a year (or $179.99 with MobileMe), Apple would offer an unlimited, annual subscription. With the base price, that means paying for approximately 131 songs and downloading as many as you please. The mp3s would be 256 Kpbs and the option to “buy and keep” would be replace the subscription version of a song with a downloaded version.
Back in March, the Financial Times reported that Apple was in the process of discussing opening the flood gates to unlimited downloading. No one will know for sure what’s happening until mid-September, but here’s to hoping. Cross your fingers!
