Crisp iPhone graphics and sound are the biggest features.

With clear graphics and accurate touch response, Bejeweled 2 is a well-crafted puzzle game. The match-three-in-a-row mechanic peaked several years ago, but the quick action and ability to save at any moment fit well on an iPhone. But other than its presentation, nothing about Bejeweled 2 feels honed for this device, making us wonder why we really need another version.

After touching and swiping a jewel shape with its neighbor, a match of three or more clears those pieces from the board. Three game modes let you play until you run out of moves, out of time, or forever, and each style rewards short- and long-term strategy.

But Bejeweled 2 adds nothing more to this retread mechanic. The space-age soundtrack and visual effects just try to dress up a too-familiar scenario.

THE BOTTOM LINE
Bejeweled 2 is built around a common--if engaging--central puzzle. While the Bejeweled franchise used to innovate, this time, all that glitters is not gold.
