All those Palm Graffiti skills are now iPhone Force powers.
With Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for iPhone being released tonight, THQ's mobile division has mapped its next games. An updated and rebranded Phone Saber will follow this month, WALL-E will be out this year, and an iPhone version of the board game, Pass the Pigs will arrive in 2009.
We're cautious about Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. With a cut-scene heavy style that reminds us of Dragon's Lair, you make gestures at the right time to fight against Star Wars enemies. In a brief pre-release sample, we saw a few moments that were interactive beyond mimicking on-screen prompts, where players can choose which Force power attacks or defends. So, we're hopeful that the game will be more than Simon Says. Check back in for our full review once the game is out.
Lightsaber Unleashed will be the rebranded and relaunched Phone Saber. You'll pick from five characters and swing the iPhone around to make sounds. This free toy also includesl Star Wars art and music taken from The Force Unleashed. Bring out your inner Star Wars Kid sometime in September.
THQ Mobile is collaborating with its console groups to port WALL-E code and assets to the iPhone. While we didn't see the OpenGL game in action, this closeness will hopefully usher in great-looking, 3D iPhone games. Look for WALL-E sometime this year, with a price to be determined.
In the first quarter of 2009, THQ will release Pass the Pigs for the iPhone. This board game is similar to Yahtzee, where players throw small, molded pigs as if they were dice. Players score points depending on the way they land, such as standing or on a certain side. The iPhone version will use the accelerometer to shake and throw, allow four players on a single device, and include a solo mode. The price hasn't been determined.
