Apple once again has closed the gates to the iTunes App Store when it decided to deny the update for the music streaming app CastCatcher 1.3. According to Apple, the app violates iPhone SDK Section 3.3.15. Apple claims that this version of the app transfers "excessive volumes of data over the cellular network"

The previous version of CastCatcher is still available for purchase in the iTunes App Store. The latest version, 1.3 update notes state:

- Adjustable buffer size (see Preferences on your iPhone)
- Experimental AAC+ support (works w/ 2.0.2 but not 2.1 - bug report filed w/ Apple for assistance - this feature is NOT supported)
- Minor fix around Icecast metadata
- Fixed crash on downloading invalid playlist files

The developer, Return 7 was quick to state on their site, "We've emailed them and are hoping to resolve this quickly. CastCatcher does not burden cell networks any more than any other radio application." CastCatcher streams ShoutCast, IceCast and NiceCast streaming formats.

Further research shows that popular Music streaming app, Pandora streams 64kbps mono, while AOL radio adjusts rates according to the area of connection, graying out certain stations that are only available to via high-bandwidth. Most ShoutCast streams are 128kbps. Which shouldn't be an issue, since the app is already in the App Store.
