I switched my cell phone from a Treo 755p to the iPhone, and I just realized that my calendar program, Now Up-To-Date, won’t sync to the iPhone. So I have to start using iCal instead. But how can I transfer all of my data from Now Up-To-Date into iCal?

The Missing Sync for Palm OS will let you sync your Treo’s calendar data to iCal, where it’s ready for your iPhone.

Now Up-To-Date won’t export calendar data in a format that iCal can read, but there are still a few ways to move your calendar data from Now Up-To-Date to iCal.

One method is to use your cell phone as a conduit. Since you’ve already been syncing your Treo with Now Up-To-Date, chances are that you may already be using the Missing Sync for Palm OS ($39.95, www
.markspace.com). If so, go ahead and perform one final sync between Now Up-To-Date and your Treo, to get your Treo completely updated. Then, go into Missing Sync for Palm OS and disable the Now Up-To-Date conduit. Enable both the Mark/Space Events and Mark/Space Tasks conduits instead, and sync your Treo once again to your Mac. This time, all of your calendar data from your Treo will populate iCal instead of Now Up-To-Date.

Another solution: If you still have Palm Desktop’s HotSync software installed and active on your machine, you can perform one final sync to Now Up-To-Date, and then enable Palm OS Syncing in Apple’s iSync application (Applications/iSync). To do this, go into iSync and choose Devices > Enable Palm OS Syncing. iSync will walk you through the setup process, and the next time you sync your Treo, your calendar data will move into iCal. Alternatively, if you use Daylite (free 30-day trial, $189 to buy, www.marketcircle.com), it can import data from Now Up-To-Date and then export it in the ICS format, which iCal can read.

You may be tempted to use Microsoft Entourage, which also has the ability to import data from Now Up-To-Date, but it is not a complete solution. That’s because when Entourage syncs its calendar data to iCal (either through Sync Services or through iCal’s Import dialog), all of your different calendar categories get lumped together into one single iCal calendar called Entourage.
