You wasted a fair chunk of the 80s with it, and now it's back and playable on the iPad. Per the cool cats at Touch Arcade, a fan-created version of Sierra's classic Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter can now be accessed via the Mobile Safari browser on your iPad. Simply head over to http://ipad.sarien.net, create a bookmark and you're playing the space adventure that helped deplete your social skills back in 1986.

So far, the port seems to be everything you remember from the original. The title features as small load time the first time you play, though this is bypassed upon later plays as Safari begins to load the game from its cache. The port also features multiple save slots (a necessity for old-school adventure titles) and the same blocky graphics as the original.
The only core complaint to be seen at this juncture is a lack of sound effects from the title which boils down to the challenge of in-browser HTML and Javascript code that the developer has yet to plug away on. Still, it's a great Sierra title available for free on your iPad, so give it a gander.
