The kid is back, and once again proving he’s the jailbreak king.
Geohot, the hacker who first freed the iPhone from its shackles back in 2007, has returned with a YouTube video (embedded below) showing his latest creation -- an untethered jailbreak, according to 9to5Mac.
“The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n,” Geohot writes on his blog, referring to his previous effort used to jailbreak and unlock the latest and greatest iPhone firmware. “It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models… and will probably work on iPad, too.”
That last bit has been raising eyebrows in the hacker community -- does it mean we might see a jailbroken iPad as early as the April 3 launch date? Our fingers are crossed.
The bad news is, Geohot hasn’t divulged any information on when his new jailbreak might spring forth, closing his blog with a stern warning: “Don’t ask about a release date. You won’t make it happen any sooner.”
In the meantime, we have this little video evidence to warm our hearts.
