For a nine-year-old boy living in Seattle, the dream became a reality with Allied Star Police, a new iOS game from PopCap’s 4th & Battery division.

You might remember 4th and Battery from their exploits earlier this year when they were spawned as an off-shoot brand of Bejeweled/Plants vs. Zombies developer PopCap Games. Their first game was mired in controversy, the second was hardly ever seen, and now they're back with a third. Though they're being a bit coy with the announcement, we think we know what game it is.

Some of the best and most beloved casual games of the past several years -- Peggle, Bejeweled, and Plants vs. Zombies included -- came from the bright minds at PopCap, so when the studio announced recently that it would release smaller, edgier games under a new 4th and Battery label, we couldn't help but take notice. We just didn't expect the first game to focus on the graphic murder of flying horses.

The strange saga of 4th and Battery's Unpleasant Horse continues today as the game appeared ever-so-briefly on the New Zealand App Store, then it was reportedly pulled from the store abruptly. It was available long enough for discussion to begin about the game on the forums over at TouchArcade, but then it was gone with no official word or explanation.

Unpleasant Horse 4th and Battery, an offshoot brand developed by PopCap Games to develop edgier and more risque games, announced yesterday evening that their first game was denied by Apple's approval process. This is more than a little bit surprising. Over the past year, the approval process has been little more than a formality for major games companies. Apple's banhammer has usually been reserved as a filter for porn-apps, or apps that just don't work.

You may remember PopCap games as the developer and publisher behind such classics as Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies, and Bejeweled. Today, the company has unveiled its new label 4th & Battery, which will reportedly carry a new, edgier tone than PopCap has previously been known for. They also announced the first game that will debut from the label. It's called Unpleasant Horse, and you play as, drumroll please...an unpleasant horse.
