Quake4iPhone

ZodTTD, the “Home of Homebrew”, is working on the source code to bring the original Quake to the iPhone. The initial release will have portrait controls similar to gpSPhone, the Game Boy Advanced Emulator for iPhone.

ZodTDD is unsure if they’ll initiate the device’s accelerometer just yet. It depends if the demand is there and if players will find themselves playing through a First Person Shooter on the iPhone. Network play will be included and the command line interface will be accessible. The App is not yet available for installation.

This is an especially exciting feat for the iPhone. If a popular franchise like Quake can work with the iPhone’s compact technology, surely other games that became popular will become ported. This will expand the iPhone’s capabilities and launch the device into an era where it will compete against other handheld gaming consoles like Nintendo’s DS Lite and Sony’s Playstation Portable.
