AppleCare technicians may soon be able to do initial troubleshooting of your troubled iPhone remotely. The new system, reportedly announced internally at Apple, would apparently be able to collect various bits of diagnostic information from your iPhone and send it directly to Apple servers for immediate analysis.
This new, web-based version of the same diagnostic tools AppleCare technicians already use, would allow a technician to send an email with a unique URL to your iPhone; when you click the URL, a lot of data will go back and forth that may save you a trip to the Apple Store.
