Apple’s Remote app (free, universal) is a no-brainer for controlling iTunes on your Mac or media on your Apple TV from your iPhone or iPad.

Engadget brings word that not only is TiVo testing Hulu Plus playback right now, it's also considering letting you stream your TiVo content directly to your iPad!

TiVo forever changed the way we watch TV, but its arrival on the iPad sure won’t spark a similar revolution. This app definitely delivers some killer new functionality, but it doesn’t do the one thing you probably most want it too: streaming.

Still, what it does do, it does quite well, turning your iPad into a killer remote control -- if you have the right TiVo hardware.

If you're a Tivo Premier owner, you've got a new reason for you to pick up an iPad. Conversely, if you already own an iPad, you may want to consider the purchase of a Tivo Premier. What we're driving at here is that Tivo has announced a companion app for the iPad designed to work with the Tivo Premier!

TiVo has released version 2.8.1 of their Desktop Software. In addition to just a few new settings, the software adds export support for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. This update affects both Basic and Plus versions of the TiVo Desktop Software, but only the Plus version gets the added export options.

Until someone comes up with a simple, reliable, nonfiddly way to get Hulu on our television, we’re still addicted to traditional TV. That said, without TiVo, we’d give up on TV in a heartbeat. Back in the day, piling on to the couch for Must See TV on Thursday nights from 8 to 10 was a given. But now, the ability to time- and place-shift television is a crucial feature. The only problem is that our TiVo box is frequently overflowing with content, and it really sucks to lose crucial episodes of your favorite show because there’s a marathon of The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Bravo--not that we’d ever watch anything like that.
