With a third beta of iOS 4.3 released to developers this week, everyone is wondering when Apple might release the official version for all to enjoy. According to a review of the Verizon iPhone by New York Times writer David Pogue, it may be soon.
It seems like an eternity since we first heard whisperings of The Daily, the iPad-only publication from News Corp. launched Wednesday. The pet project of none other than Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, the publishing titan was joined on stage by Apple’s vice president of Internet Services, Eddy Cue as well as editorial staff to unveil the new app to the press.
Despite rumors of iOS app subscriptions soon knocking on our door, it would appear that Apple and publishers still have a long way to go. The sticking point? Publishers are wanting to be able to sell subscriptions all on their own, or be able to hang onto subscriber info. Apple has other thoughts in mind.
Fans of BBC programming will appreciate this latest tidbit. According to the Financial Times, the BBC is planning on launching its iPlayer app as a commercial subscription for iPad users outside the UK. United States viewers are said to be the first target.
