Apple says that the 2 billionth app was downloaded from the App Store on September 28, 2009. To that, we of the Mac|Life
staff rejoin that we’re responsible for sucking down at least a couple
hundred of that oh-so-impressive number. Without further ado, we name
our very favorite regular apps and game apps of 2009.
We’re sure many Mac users have seen the Utilities folder inside of the
Applications folder and wondered what the applications contained inside
do. Maybe they control the weather or give you super powers. The
reality is bit less exciting, but still incredibly useful to even the
newest Mac user.
There is a lot of noise about Apple's mythical tablet being some kind
of idealized electronic reader (the Kindle killer). But right now, some print
publishers (apart from Amazon) are getting in on the ground floor.
While none of the offerings are currently the newest material in their
catalog, Marvel Comics is partnering with some app developers for the
iPhone to bring comics to the small screen. If the sampling is any
indication of how well comics can be done on a 3.5-inch screen, I can
hardly wait for Apple to bust out the 10.7-inch tablet.
Here is a list of the 10 best completely free applications that run
solely from the menubar. Of course, if you are an organization freak,
look elsewhere, because the multiple new icons WILL clutter up the
otherwise pristine menubar, but we guarantee they will exponentially
increase the usefulness of your Mac.
