Does anyone see the irony of releasing an iPhone-connected blood pressure monitor at an event like the Consumer Electronics Show? Apparently Withings doesn’t, and they’re rolling out the device this week for a cool $129.
Remember this time last year, when Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer stepped on stage at CES to show off HP’s Slate? That was supposed to be their answer to the as-yet unannounced iPad, but we all know how that went down. Now Microsoft is back at CES 2011, with both Apple TV and Google TV in their crosshairs.
The annual Consumer Electronics Show will invade Las Vegas this week, running from Thursday, January 6 through Sunday, January 9. Although Apple historically doesn’t attend this four-day showcase of digital delight, that doesn’t mean that the rumor mills aren’t churning round the clock leading up to the big event just the same.
Although I’m writing this as December dawns, when you’re reading it I’ll be in Las Vegas at January’s Consumer Electronics Show, poking and prodding the promised plethora of computing goodness powered by AMD’s new Fusion line of processors. One company that won’t be demonstrating AMD-powered wares at CES is Apple—all Macs are currently powered by Intel processors. But that doesn’t mean that Jobs & Co. aren’t contemplating putting AMD under the hood of some future bit of shiny-shiny. In fact, they’d be crazy not to.
