In case you missed it, Apple has now added a behind-the-scenes video to its 1.24.14 promotional page, which none other than marketing VP Phil Schiller announced in a tweet Monday night. Now Mac fans can get a peek at how Apple managed to distill more than 70 hours of iPhone 5s video footage shot across five continents into a minute-and-a-half-long commercial — and that's not all that made news on Monday, so read on...
It's easy to write off 2013 as a year without any real design innovations. The first great smartwatch is going to have to wait till next year — sorry, Samsung and Pebble — and we didn't get a new Apple product that wasn't a riff on a previous one. And Google didn't make any headway with Glass.
But it wasn't a lost year by any stretch. We might not look back on 2013 as the watershed year that 2007 was, but even without a big bang, there were a number of advancements that made us look, touch and think just a little different.
Former iOS boss Scott Forstall made headlines again earlier this week as reports surfaced of how he spent his first year away from Apple -- although none of them are directly sourced from Forstall himself, suggesting that the Cupertino outcast continues to be under a gag order as part of a severance package. With that victory behind us, let's get on with one last Friday recap ahead of next week's Black Friday!
It's no secret that Google TV has had a rough go of it, despite Eric Schmidt's claims of living room domination. But could a simple rebranding to connect the dots to Google's mobile products do the trick?
Google's $35 streaming dongle is getting a little kick in the pants today, thanks to the addition of Hulu Plus support from the iPad or Android devices -- and just in time for the fall television season.
So who managed to get their hands on an iPhone 5s over the weekend? Despite waking up at midnight PST to order online direct from Apple.com, our own handset finally just shipped from China this morning, marking the first time we didn't have one on launch day. But don't cry for us, Argentina -- instead chime in on the comments and let us know your own tale of success (or failure) at procuring one!
There were plenty of other things rumored alongside the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c for Tuesday, but at least one of them -- a software update for the Apple TV -- is said to still be in the cards for next week.
