Draw Something 2 is exactly the kind of sequel we'd expect from a casual gaming juggernaut like Zynga: It's slickly refined, nicely expanded, and slathered with silly marketing tie-ins. Seriously, when will pop starlet Carly Rae Jepsen continue the game that it made us send "her" during the tutorial? All the same, this follow-up builds upon the sketch-guessing sensation by adding more social features and ways to interact, while wrapping everything up in a flashier package.
Last year, OMGPOP's Draw Something was a runaway hit on iOS devices everywhere. There was a time when it seemed like nothing could stop the hype train that was this Pictionary-like, asynchronous multiplayer drawing game. But after Zynga acquired the title -- well, things went south. Now, it seems OMGPOP is hoping to rekindle that fire with a sequel.
Well, it's a big gamer weekend for price drops we're seeing. So if you've got rain where you're at, it's a perfect weekend to stay indoors and give your thumbs a workout. If you're getting ready to go back to school, we've got a couple other apps for you too.
Everyone's been noticing an uptick in their app updates now that the big new iPad Retina Display is here. While you were busy tapping over and over that yes, you were aware other browsers would let you view adult content, a bunch of other things were going on and we nabbed some of them jsut for you. Aren't we sweet?
Last night, instead of watching the Mad Men season premiere, I was playing Draw Something. But it wasn't just me: Susie was playing it, and our contributing writers were playing it, and basically we were all hanging out somewhere in our respective houses last night trying to guess each other's doodles.
Draw Something, if you don't know, is an iOS (and Android!) game that basically lets you play Pictionary with friends. It's primarily developed by Omgpop, but because of its crazy popularity -- 20 million downloads five weeks after launch -- Zynga jumped in and threw the company $180 million. We're not quite sure what exactly has piqued the interest of so many users, but it's now our favorite way to spend Saturday afternoon.
Good googly-moogly, it’s already hump day! And judging from social gaming giant Zynga, it must be a good one for the folks over at OMGPOP, whose popular Draw Something app (and 34 other titles) have just been snapped up in an acquisition. Anyone feeling up to acquiring an overworked tech blogger or two? We work really hard and we don’t require much care and feeding, honest! Well, no takers here, it seems… so let’s get busy spreading the news for this wonderful Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
