When it comes to hard drive makers, there are only a couple of ways they can stand out in the crowd: Make ‘em smaller, make ‘em bigger or add connectivity. In the case of Seagate, they’ve gone with “make ‘em bigger” for their latest GoFlex Desk, which now tops out at a whopping 4TB for only $249.
Perhaps sensing a new trend, hard drive manufacturer Seagate has found a way to get a little slice of the mobile device market with GoFlex Satellite, a Wi-Fi enabled portable hard drive capable of beaming media content to up to three iOS devices at once.

Since I can’t physically expand the disk space within the computer, the search was on for a Mac-friendly hard drive that offers the holy trisect of features: speed, capacity, and reliability. I put three of the most promising new external drives to the test to see which one could live up to my demanding storage requirements.
