The awesome flash game Steambirds is officially getting a second iOS version next month as Steambirds: Survival makes its way to the App Store.
Steambirds is like the amazing iOS spawn of Flight Control and Frozen Synapse. The former is, of course, the very well-known international iOS hit that tasks players with trying to land airplanes with the touch screen. The latter is a less-known PC and Mac title that has become an underground sensation in recent months.
Halfbrick has a knack for creating cheap, quick-hit apps that immediately devour any remaining free time you thought you had -- see Fruit Ninja, above all -- and new universal app Jetpack Joyride may be its finest work to date. Like precursor Monster Dash, Jetpack Joyride thrusts everyman-turned-badass Barry Steakfries in a frantic side-scrolling adventure, but as indicated in the title (originally Machine Gun Jetpack), you're no longer stuck on the ground.
Halfbrick has been responsible for some of the more memorable iOS hits to date -- notably Fruit Ninja and Age of Zombies -- and their latest, Jetpack Joyride, looks to make another strong impression on iPhone and iPad gamers when it launches this Thursday. I had a chance to play the universal app this weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Seattle, and while the speedy side-scroller is based in the self-propelled running genre popularized by Canabalt and Halfbrick's own Monster Dash, the addition of the titular object really gives this high-strung adventure a fresh new feel of its own.
August, the month that could really use a holiday but doesn't have any for some crazy reason, is dragging on. It's Friday again. That's a good thing, but if you have time to kill this weekend, whether you're hiding from lousy weather or wiling away the hours in an airport, we've found some great time-killers on sale in the App Store, at low, low prices of free to $1.99. Treat yourself...
Halfbrick, the developer of the hit iOS game, Fruit Ninja, has returned with another promising looking title. Their oft-used manly hero, Barry Steakfries will be starring again in a game called machine gun jetpack. If you're thinking to yourself, "there's no way it's actually about a machinegun jetpack," think again. Our most secret prayers have been answered.
The Fruit Ninja 1.4 update was released to the App Store today, adding multiplayer support for Game Center. Battle your friends and enemies in an all new network multiplayer mode that throws blue fruits and red fruits at your screen. Slice away at your blue fruit while avoiding your opponents red fruit. The regular rules of the game still apply in multiplayer mode, such as bonuses and combo fruits.
