While Apple wages war over patents on a number of different fronts against Google’s Android, a new report claims that the company’s chief patent attorney is planning to leave the company soon, in what can only be considered bad timing.
Apple recently filed a second patent infringement complaint against HTC before the existing complaint is settled. Though they are not the first company to use this strategy in the ongoing Tech Wars, Apple may be resigned to defeat with regards to their initial complaint and already drawing the battle lines for round two.
A department of the International Trade Commission thinks the initial complaint is baseless. If that complaint does not go their way, Apple now has some more cards to play.
As predicted, there was no new iPhone announced at WWDC this year, lending further credence to rumors that Apple plans to move introduction of the next model to September to coincide with iOS 5 -- a move that is likely to give Android competitors like HTC a chance to eclipse Cupertino’s lead in the U.S. smartphone market.
