It seems that, more often than not, the rumor mill gets it right -- case in point, that recent rumor swirling around that Amazon would soon take on Netflix by offering unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows for Prime members at no extra charge.
Tech fans will have plenty to be thankful for come Turkey Day next week -- The Beatles are finally on iTunes, Google Voice is on the iPhone, Twitter has push notifications for iOS and Hulu Plus is finally out of preview mode, officially landing on Roku boxes everywhere.
Giving even more incentive for casual TV viewers to cut the cord on their cable bill, Hulu announced Wednesday that their paid Hulu Plus service is officially out of preview, complete with a price reduction and availability on Roku boxes.
Oh, Hulu. Our love for you is a fickle thing. When you were a free web-based streaming service that offered up a deep and enjoyable catalog of TV and movie content, our hearts went pitter-pat at the very mention of your name. Later, when you scaled back the variety of content you offered, the relationship cooled. Then you told us that if we wanted to get access to your "premium content," we'd have to pay for it. That was dirty. We were so hurt that we ran to the arms of our reliable old flame Netflix, who for one low, reasonable price, has never denied us anything. What's that you say? You miss us so much that you're thinking about loweing your price to a meager $4.95 a month?
The streaming content wars are heating up, and thus far it seems to come down to one of two worthy contenders: Venerable DVD-by-mail provider Netflix in one corner, slugging it out with ad-supported, studio-funded rival Hulu Plus, who earlier this month brought their popular service to iOS devices (and more) at long last.

Last week's Hulu Plus news wasn't as high profile as some though it would be. While Hulu fans were ecstatic over the larger selection of television episodes and movies to watch, they were also hoping for something a little more…ad free. Fortunately, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar has said that an ad-free Hulu is a possibility after all, though he did tell NewTeeVee that he didn't see a problem with the advertisements because consumers already pay for monthly cable with a ton of long winded commercial breaks.
