Over the course of the holidays, Chair's Infinity Blade came out and blew the iOS user base away by proving just how amazing a game could look on an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. By the time you'd fought your way through the castle time and time again, gradually leveling up your character and gaining weapons, armor, and magic items that could slay almost any opponent, you wanted more. And as of Thursday, Chair responded, releasing a free, full-fledged expansion to the title in the form of Infinity Blade: Arena.

Ordinarily we don't tend to post about small-scale iOS app sales. Usually we save those kinds of articles for gigantic company-wide sales around holidays, but this time we're going to make an exception. Maybe we're just in that kind of mood, or maybe it's a slow news day. Or maybe it's because these two games could justifiably be called the two best games ever released for iOS.

Infinity Blade Arena As if we needed any more reasons to be head over heels in love with ChAIR Entertainment's iOS masterstroke Infinity Blade, today we're getting word from the developer that they're releasing a brand new update for the game that will be available Thursday, May 19.

The iPad 2 hits today and with this, Epic Games’ ChAIR Entertainment has announced that its Infinity Blade adventure game has been updated today with new optimizations specifically for iPad 2. The changes, which are part of a 500+ megabyte update available via the iTunes App Store, take advantage of the improved processing power of iPad 2, allowing the title to look and play better than ever.

It was the week the iPad 2 ate every other tablet's lunch including some not even launched yet. Seriously, do they think the Xoom is so much better that people are going to shell out $300 more for it than 5 of the 6 iPad models out there? That either is going to have to be one heck of a tablet or one tall, tall glass of Apple Haterade. iOS Infinity Blade More Successful than Xbox Live's Shadow Complex Says Epic VP

The last two games developed by Chair Entertainment were 2009's Shadow Complex and the recent release Inifinity Blade in late 2010. The former released on the Xbox 360 through Microsoft's digital download service, Xbox Live Arcade, while the latter came out on Apple iOS devices. In a recent interview with Joystiq, Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games (Chair's publisher) said that Infinity Blade has in fact been even more successful than the well-received Shadow Complex.

Epic Games announced today that the award-winning iOS title from Chair Entertainment, Infinity Blade, will be getting a big content update available for free. To coincide with the new update - titled: Infinity Blade: The Deathless Kings - the game will also be offered up for a discount rate for a limited time.

There's an old saying: "If your father was horribly impaled by the God King while trying to rid the world of evil, you should probably follow in his footsteps and try to kill the God King as well."

It's not a popular saying.

Or good advice.

Still, this is the central theme of Infinity Blade, a medieval role-playing game in which you take on the role of a warrior who must fight his way through a castle and destroy a figure known as the God King. Along the way, you'll collect treasure, healing potions, new weapons, armor, and magic spells.

You'll also die. A lot.
