AirPlay is one of the sweetest updates ever to grace iOS. Simple and elegant, AirPlay makes it a one-tap snap to share and stream video, audio, or photo content residing on your iOS device, Apple TV, or third-party AirPlay compatible device.
As great as AirPlay is, you can make it even better by tweaking it to suit your individual needs. To make sure that you're getting the maximum amount of awesome out of AirPlay possible, we've put together this quick list of tips on how to tweak your hardware and AirPlay-compatible content to make your AirPlay experience just that much better.
The Internet got mighty upset when Orientation Lock was replaced with Mute on the iPad during the last iOS update. Well, Apple listened and now you can choose between the two. Head to Settings>General and you can choose between Lock Rotation and Mute.
Head to Settings>Sounds>Ringtone Scroll to the top and tap on Buy More Ringtones OR launch the iTunes app, Tap on More>Ringtones. It'll launch the iTunes app and you'll be presented with ringtones for $1.29. Most songs have multiple options for ringtones. Of course you can always create your own ringtone in GarageBand for free.
To share your iPhone's mobile internet connection head to Settings>General>Network there you'll see Set Up Personal Hotspot. You'll be able to share your Internet connection via Wi-Fi, USB, and Bluetooth. But, before you start spreading your Internet connection like a modern-day Johnny Appleseed, you'll have to contact your carrier to set the service up and check on their prices.
If you're carrying around sensitive data on your iOS device, you can now enable a feature that'll erase all the data on the device if someone inputs the incorrect passcode 10 times. Navigate to Settings>General>Passcode Lock. at the bottom, you'll see Erase Data, flick that on and you'll be covered in case someone finds or steals your iPhone and they try to call all your friends at 4AM.
If two alert tones about SMS messages just wasn't enough for you can now set it to play the alert tone up to 10 times. You know, in case you ignored the previous nine. Head to Settings>Messages>Play Alert Tone to set the frequency of alert reminders. They'll ping you every two minutes.
On the iPhone you can now share nine photos, Copy five photos, and print, well at least 250 photos, we got tired of tapping on pictures. On the iPad you can Email five photos and Copy and Print, well, we stopped after 300 photos were selected. Bad news for printing, you still have to have an AirPrint-enabled HP printer or use AirPrint Activator.
Waiting for an important text message? Now you'll get two vibrations instead of one for SMS messages. Now you'll know the difference between an email and text while your iPhone is in your pocket. Thanks Benjamin Mayo for the tip.
