It’s Friday, September 23 and that means the fall season has officially arrived on the calendar -- and with it will soon come iOS 5, iCloud, iTunes Match and another update to OS X Lion to help tie it all together on the Mac side. As proof that it’s getting closer, Apple pushed out a new OS X 10.7.2 build to developers on Thursday with what appears to be final release notes.
Developers have spent all summer putting the forthcoming iOS 5 through its paces, which includes beta testing Apple’s new iCloud service, which can backup and restore data from an iOS device (among other things) -- which will get its first big test this week as Apple purges those developer backups ahead of a gold master for the new version.
The rumor mills are heating up as September enters its second half. Next week we expect things to really get hot and the week after that'll be like living on Mercury. We've got a few of these tasty stories, mainly involving a third (possibly fourth?) carrier for the iPhone, as well as some gaming news sure to make at least one reader squee in our hottest stories of the week round up.
With the newly revamped free iCloud service fast approaching its fall release, one of the warts in Apple’s otherwise beautiful system has been gaining a lot of attention in recent months: The inability to consolidate multiple Apple IDs into one, particularly for existing MobileMe users stuck with one for iTunes purchases and another for everything else.
As the release of iOS 5 fast approaches, one developer has turned up some interesting threads buried in OS X Lion’s iChat app which indicate that it could soon gain the ability to communicate directly with iOS 5’s iMessage for quick and easy chat from computer to mobile device.
Apple is quickly moving toward the release of iOS 5 this fall, and one of the major new features revealed at WWDC back in June was Newsstand, the company’s solution for organizing subscription content on your device -- and now, digital publishers can prepare for the feature with support from Adobe Digital Publishing Suite.
Rumors about anything to do with iOS are everywhere and unending. But don't worry -- we got this.
Here is the latest horde of rumors, covering all things iOS. Don't be scared, we'll go through them one at a time. Follow along, and when the next generation of these devices does actually come out from Cupertino, you can smugly say something like, "Meh, I heard about that already."
We hope you’re not too sick of iPhone 5 rumors, because here comes another one! The unannounced handset seems to be all anyone wants to talk about right now, with even the otherwise lackluster news that the handset is now being manufactured starting to make headlines.
