Over a month ago, Facebook added the ability to call friends for free via its Messenger iOS app. An update to the social network's full Facebook iOS app has now added the feature for everyone. While it still requires both callers to have the app installed, the service is a nice alternative to eating up carrier minutes.

If you love software updates, it’s like Christmas morning in October for Apple product owners. In addition to this morning’s new iOS apps, the folks in Cupertino are busy pushing out iOS 5 compatibility updates for almost everything they’ve released -- including Remote, Find My iPhone, iMovie and the trio of iWork apps.

Matching an Android update last week, the iOS version now includes Hangouts and plenty of other changes -- but still no iPad love.
