Still looking desperately for an iPad 2? Assuming you’re content with a Wi-Fi only model in a small or mid-sized capacity, you might want to saunter over to your local Toys “R” Us store, where you may finally be able to get your hands on one.
If there’s one thing that should be abundantly clear by now, it’s that you don’t mess with the fruit -- Apple, in this case. Best Buy employees are reporting that the electronics retailer is in the doghouse with Apple over some shenanigans with iPad 2 sales.
Today's the release of the iPad 2 in Europe, and our friends across the pond at Tap! magazine are currently waiting in line at the Bath, England Apple Store for their very own second-generation tablet. They've graciously provided us with a couple of videos from the line to give us "Yankee blokes" (see what I did there?) a look at what iPad 2 launches are like overseas (hint: they're totally the same as ours).
Tossing aside rumors of a delay, Apple has officially confirmed that the iPad 2 will debut in 25 more countries this Friday, March 25 as originally scheduled -- which probably won’t make frustrated would-be buyers in this country any happier.
While it may just be a gimmick to draw attention to the effort, you have to admit it’s impressive that the iPad 2 has been in stores less than a week and already the tablet has been used to shoot a music video.
If you didn’t manage to grab an iPad 2 last Friday or successfully get an online order placed in the wee hours of it first being made available, it’s looking increasingly like you’ll have a long wait ahead of you.
It was almost to be expected, right? The original iPad launch saw inventory run out rather quickly, and online order shipping times didn't exactly come down until last summer as Apple upped the pace to replenish supplies. It appears that the iPad 2's launch this weekend is going the way of its predecessor, as the only model left at Apple's Fifth Ave store today was the $829 Verizon 3G model.
East coast Mac mavens, rejoice. You can get your hands on an iPad 2 a full three hours before people out west. Life is good. Even better, Apple has decided to release the iPad 2 at 5PM your-local-time today. You can wake up early (east coast) or stay up late (west coast) and order it online at 1:00 AM PST/4:00 AM EST, but you won't have the device in your hot little hands right away. The more excitable instant gratification addicts among us will be starting their weekends off by lining up outside the nearest Apple store or one of the many fine retail establishments -- AT&T, Best Buy, Target, Verizon Wireless, Wal-mart and "select Apple Authorized Resellers" -- offering the iPad 2. What strikes us as peculiar, though, is today’s 5 PM retail launch hour. Why did the marketing whiz kids and sales strategists choose 5 PM as optimum time for the iPad 2's retail debut?
So you braved the wilds of the retail jungle and scored yourself an iPad 2 on launch day. Congratulations! If you now find yourself sitting in front of your Mac or PC wondering what to do next, fear not -- we’ve got you covered.
