The big deal of the week was of course Apple's unveiling of the new iPad Air models, but they also dropped a gorgeous big screen iMac down for us to drool over and then slipped us Yosemite Thursday. With iOS 8.1 set to drop Monday, Apple is pretty much dominating the weekend. Those stories and more of what else happened in Apple news this week.
For all intents and purposes, the Macworld/iWorld Expo — the publicly open Apple trade event held each spring — is no more. IDG, Macworld's publisher, announced this morning that the event was on hiatus, and that the show planned for 2015 in San Francisco would not take place.
So the reviews have started coming in for jOBs, Apple TV got an update and so did your other iOS devices, Vine got launched, got pulled, got tweaked, got 25% less sexy, and a whole bunch of other stuff, so let's see what's cooking in the hot pot of news this week.
We're just a little over a week away from the 2013 edition of the Macworld/iWorld show in San Francisco, and the expo is locking up the high-profile guests who will appear. That includes the two stars of the upcoming independent Steve Jobs biopic -- one of whom is the artist formerly known as Mr. Demi Moore. Find out when it all goes down in our weekend recap...
I took a leisurely stroll through the show floor yesterday afternoon. Fueled only be half a veggie burger and two 16oz glasses of Sprite, I saw some things that I will never forget. And here they are, documented in this video to show you, fair Mac|Life reader. Enjoy.
PS) For the record, those Western Digital hard drives were not running hot. I was trying to make a bad pun, but it didn't work out. And as you may know, I am often spouting bad puns.
Our videographer (see also: visonary) Michael DeLano took a GoPro through the convention halls and shortened it down to two minutes to give you a fully immersive walkthrough of the Macworld/iWorld show floor. Check out and be sure to pay attention to the slow downs--you might see some people you know.
Good news, everyone! Not only will we be covering the Macworld/iWorld 2012 show floor like crazy the next two days, but we're having an impromptu, unofficial meet up near the convention! Join the editors for a pint glass of brew at 6:30 at ThirstyBear Restaurant & Brewery, located at 661 Howard Street (cross street is Third Street--right behind the Moscone Convention Center). Arrive promptly if you'd like to join us for dinner, otherwise just head inside and come have a beer!
If you need to get ahold of us, you can tweet Flo (@ohthatflo), Ray (@raguilera), or the official Mac|Life Twitter feed (@maclife). Follow us all on Twitter to keep tabs on our current location.
One more thing: We're giving away a pair of Cirque du Mac tickets, courtesy of Dolly Drive. We'll be asking a very special trivia question and the winner will get the tickets. And then you can come hang out with us Friday night, too!
