As recently as 2011, people were predicting that social gaming giant Zynga was going to play a big hand in killing off gaming consoles and perhaps even traditional video games through its Facebook franchises. Considering that Zynga announced today that it's laying off 520 employees — that's 18 percent of its workforce — that no longer seems to be the case. As reported by AllThingsD, Zynga claims the layoffs herald a transition toward a focus on mobile games.
