Another Tuesday without new Apple products, so you’ll have to settle for today’s Camera RAW Compatibility Update while you examine supposed iPhone 5 parts that have leaked onto the internet, all while downloading a couple of updates to our favorite iOS apps. Ready to proceed? Then here’s the latest for this terrific Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
Given that the iPad 2 was released earlier this year with a newer A5 processor, it probably won’t come as a surprise if and when Apple announces a similar move for the next iPhone -- and judging from a recent leaked photo of an unassembled handset, that’s just about exactly what you should expect.
If you’re the sort of person who prefers wild speculation instead of cold, hard facts, keep reading. Everyone else, there’s nothing to see here! The iOS 5 and iCloud rumors get cranked up into overdrive with a couple of leaked screenshots from Apple retail claiming their release could be “just around the corner.”
We all survived a long, national nightmare waiting for the white iPhone 4, which was delayed a handful of times before finally being made available in late April. The question now is, could the same fate soon befall a newly leaked white iPod touch that may be introduced this fall?
Alongside the abundance of iPhone 5 rumors has been just about an equal amount of "iPhone 4S" rumors. The cheaper iPhone 4 would be released along with the iPhone 5, in what is appearing more likely to be an October launch. The phone would contain different components and less storage in an effort to lower manufacturing costs. But one thing that may not be different? The case.
It seems like the night before an Apple event, somebody somewhere leaks some kind of photo about a product or update that’s about to be announced. In keeping with tradition, late Sunday night an image surfaced that shows a pretty good concept for how notifications might work in iOS 5.
Is it just us, or do you get the impression that the next iPhone will have a camera lens separated from the LED flash? That certainly seems to be the case as more and more evidence keeps turning up, including this new photo of an alleged fifth-generation iPhone part.
Word from Foxconn headquarters is that Apple's fifth-generation iPhone has been spotted, and that it is allegedly slated for mass production any day now. It also -- apparently -- looks like a descendent of the Terminator.
It may be iPad 2 day, but that doesn’t mean that speculation about the next iPhone can’t also be newsworthy. If recently released engineering diagrams are to be believed, the iPhone 5 may indeed have a larger, edge-to-edge screen.
Oh come on, don’t look so surprised -- you didn’t really think we’d make it all the way to an Apple product announcement today without at least one last-minute leaked photo, did you? No one is saying this is the real next-gen iPad, but feel free to savor the flavor while we wait for the real deal anyway.
