The deals this week are all the newest refurbs we could find. Nothing older than a one year old, if that. We're going for so new a refurb there's still that fresh box smell. Elsewhere, we've got the cases and the power you need to keep on going and going and going.
Apple’s approach to its major tentpole products — iPhones, iPads, iMacs, and MacBooks — can be viewed in two distinct phases: revolutionize and refine. Save for last year’s introduction of the Retina display, the MacBook family has been solidly in the "refinement" zone, and this year’s 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is no different. That’s not to say that Apple hasn’t made some welcome changes underneath the machine’s svelte — and oh-so-slightly slimmer — chassis to please new buyers, or those who must be forever on the cutting edge.
Happy New Year! Welcome to the first of this year's fantastic Deals columns. We've got some refurb hits for you, plus some great pricing on fresh-out-of-the-box new Macs. And as always, the grooviest gear for your iOS devices at killer prices. So, dive in and see what kind of dough we're gonna save you this week.
Typically we feature mostly refurbs in our deals, but to start your new year off right, we'll throw in a few brand new Macs. Plus, we've got your post-holiday break down of the very best accessories and a few other things to get your iOS presents protected and tucked away safe.
Sure, the new Mac Pros are finally dropping but you'll have to wait a bit before those end up on the refurb list. But rest assured we'll let you know when they do. Meanwhile, here's some great deals on things that ARE available for your last minute shopping binges.
Mac minis are back in the game after a hiatus around these parts. These little hockey puck-sized powerhouses were some of the first signs of Apple's commitment to shrinkage — but in a good way. And now we see that the cold weather has also gotten the prices of gear down to smaller sizes. So what are you waiting for?
We’re not going to point you in the direction of any Black Friday deals here, as those are covered pretty thoroughly elsewhere. But you should seriously check these deals before camping out all night, as maybe you’ll save even bigger and get to sleep in a nice warm bed after all that turkey. Your call.
When next we meet to discuss the deals of the week, we’ll be in the thick of Thanksgiving and the Black Friday deals will be all around us. The question is, is it worth going into the stores that early on the chance of scoring a Mac deal or could you just go the refurb route and save bigger bucks? We’ll go with the latter.
iWork for Mac users had good reason to celebrate Wednesday as the usually secretive Apple unleashed a volley of information about which features it plans to bring back to the latest Pages, Numbers and Keynote versions with future updates. Could this be a sign of a kinder, gentler Apple? Time will tell, but don't expect to see it similarly sharing future plans for the next iPhone or iPad... that would just be crazy.
Seems like any time a new Apple product is released or updated, within days the company's support forums begin filling up with complaints over a variety of issues -- and the latest MacBook Pro refresh is no exception.
