Chalk one up for the rumor mills -- Apple’s online store has sprung back to life Thursday morning, and new MacBook Pro models have been released which correspond exactly to leaks over the last few days.
Did you hear the news? Supposedly, Apple will be lifting the lid on a newfangled can of MacBook Pro updates this week, presumably on Thursday, February 24 to coincide with CEO Steve Jobs’ birthday (no, we’re not making that up!) -- and here are five very good reasons why you should care.
We’ll all have to feign surprise on Thursday when Apple announces new MacBook Pro models, since details about the notebook refresh have been leaking out steadily for days. Now it appears the full specs have been leaked for a new 13-inch model, complete with an image of the new Light Peak port, rechristened as “Thunderbolt.”
As the drum continues to beat for updated MacBook Pros to be released on Thursday, the new notebooks are said to possibly contain capabilities for new Light Peak technology from Intel. That spec may have a great chance of coming to fruition, as Intel is planning on rolling out the technology on Thursday as well, one that Apple is likely to adopt.
While everyone is anticipating new MacBook Pro models this week, no one really knows for sure what new features we might see. On Monday, a couple of possibilities surfaced involving a larger trackpad and dedicated SSD storage for Mac OS X system files to allow faster performance and startup.
If you’re in the market for a new MacBook Pro, we’d suggest holding off on that purchase until later this week -- although in the case of Apple’s own online store, you won’t have much of a choice, anyway.
Waiting for a new MacBook Pro to leap from Apple’s warehouses into your lap? If a new report is to be believed, the company is already manufacturing new models right now and plans to release them to an unsuspecting public in early March.
Well, we've had time to calm down after the big iPad release and the announcement of iPhone OS 4.0 quickly followed by the release of the new MacBooks. So it's been a pretty heady last few weeks. Let's all take a couple deep breaths, relax, and gird our loins for the upcoming iPad 3G release.
As we're girding, however, what better way to relax with than a roundup of the best of the best – you know what we're talking about: the greatest show on earth, as put on by the staff of Mac|Life.
