Oh, Mac Pro… poor little neglected Mac Pro. All of your other family members have gotten the Intel bump this year with Sandy Bridge processors and Thunderbolt I/O ports, and yet you remain frozen in time, no longer the fastest Mac of them all. While we (im)patiently wait for a new version of you, here are a few things we’d like to see in your next incarnation.
June is coming to a close, and that can mean only one thing: Lion is about to be uncaged! We all know that OS X Lion will be available in July exclusively from the Mac App Store for a mere $29.99 -- but did you also know Apple will have OS X Lion Server available at the same time as a paid add-on?
A chance search of the term "install server" in a recent beta build of OS X Lion revealed the graphic seen to the right. It reads "If this Mac isn't a server, you can make it one by installing the Server app." The help file goes on to detail how to configure the Mac as a server, which entails simply downloading a Server Essentials package. This has led some to assume that this means that the app will be a paid download.
