BlackBerry fans hoping the company's latest keyboard-based smartphone might steer the company clear of a looming iceberg may be disappointed to discover that sales of the device haven't quite worked out the way the company hoped.
This week's apps fall into three big broad categories. We've got camera and image manipulation apps, we've got games, and then we've got some apps to help you get things accomplished. Not get things done, per se, because these aren't all about productivity, but they are about making life easier so you can have fun with the above-mentioned games. So let's have a look at the money you'll be saving this week.
We've got a bevy of refurb Macs for you back-to-schoolers who want a great laptop at a great price, but we've also got a handful or three of accessories to protect the rest of your Apple gear. Or to turn a decent attempt at drawing on your iPad into an awesome one. That and more after the jump.
PC sales are falling everywhere, and that extends to to Macs as well according to the news from Apple's quarterly earnings report earlier today. But as with our earlier news with the iPad's shocking dominance in Internet traffic, there's a silver lining to the news about Macs. Citing the appeal of the new MacBook Air's longer battery life, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer announced that the thin laptop had witnessed its strongest launch to date, according to AppleInsider.
Want to know the power of "free?" Consider this--when Infinity Blade II for iOS went free for a few days last week in celebration of the App Store's fifth anniversary, the popular fantasy themed fighter pulled in 5.7 million new downloads, with 1.7 million of those on the day of the announcement alone. A wise choice, too: as you might recall from our review, it's not a game you should pass up.
We've got big deals to go with big computers today. Seriously, have you seen these 27" monitors and iMacs? They're just gorgeous and it turns out there's a few refurbs out there less than a year old. So if you've been in the market for an iMac, now's your chance.
Well, the iPad minis are hitting the refurb market for real now, just as we predicted. Not so long ago, it seemed like everyone loved their mini and they were few and far between anywhere, but now, just as with all things, the bloom is off the rose and minis can be had in nearly every configuration. Verizon buyers seem more smitten than AT&T customers, but if you're hankering for the little iPad, you've come to the right place, accessories and all.
We're all over the map here this week, people. We've got games, we've got maps, we've got lists, we've got exercise. So many cool apps for saving the universe or trimming off them love handles so get clicking. One and two and three and go!
Life rises and life sinks, and that's the lesson of this week's round-up of apps that saw some price droppage. Yes, whether you are building a civilization, learning the basics of communication, or shuffling off this mortal coil, it seems there really is an app for that. Meanwhile, look good and have fun while you're living, eh?
Remember the days when pundits were clamoring on about how the iPad was just a fad and that it'd never have an edge over laptops and desktops? According to a report released this morning by research firm IDC, those days are over. By the end of the year, the study asserts, tablets will outpace laptops in sales volume, and--get this--by 2015, they'll even outpace desktops.
