Each week, we highlight a selection of the most interesting, exciting, and unique new iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch titles released on the App Store. Plants vs. Zombies 2 makes a big free-to-play splash this week, while fellow tower defense entry Pirate Legends TD also seems worth a strong look. Several other new games are profiled, as well, along with a huge update to Super Stickman Golf 2 that's sure to hook old die-hards once more.
It's amazing what a simple change in perspective can do. Dropping the third dimension of typical sims in favor of a side-scrolling approach made the original Super Stickman Golf a revelatory mobile experience, both with its puzzle-platform single-player courses and the raucous speed-based multiplayer showdowns. Considering the ample success of the debut, Super Stickman Golf 2 expectedly doesn't mess with the formula too much, employing the same mechanics while adding fresh courses, customization options, and another gripping multiplayer mode.
We don't simply hand out 5 out of 5 Editor's Choice ratings to every iOS game that comes along. It takes something pretty special to wow us like that, but Super Stickman Golf was more than up to the task. We awarded the game our coveted perfect score last week in our review.
